Subject – Vedanta philosophy – Sometimes referred to as "The Perennial Philosophy"

Definitions – What is "Real?" What is the goal (according to Vedanta)?

Four major paths (Yogas) to that goal.

Benefits of these Yogas regardless of personal convictions or religion.

Maryse was born in France, to a very atheistic family. After coming to this country, she was exposed to different ideas about God and religion, and she began to question her upbringing. This led to a search, which in turn led to her interest in Vedanta, which she pursued extensively. In college she studied, amongst other things, mathematics, and she taught math at Seattle University for nearly four years. A number of times she has been a guest lecturer on Vedanta, at Butte Community College, addressing a class on "Eastern Religion and Philosophy".

Mystery Schools — Ancient and Modern

Mystery schools have played an important, if often unrecognized, role in the development of the philosophies and religions of mankind. In an often unsuspected way they have influenced our approach to medicine as well as religions. They provide a marked contrast to the materialistic approach of most science today and to our understanding of reality. This talk will review the history and implications of mystery schools, including the forms they take in contemporary society. It will discuss the relationship of the training provided students in mystery schools with our activities as dowsers, as both tap into a source of knowledge that is outside our usual physical reality.

Robert E. Smith, Ph.D.

Robert E. Smith is Professor Emeritus of Human Physiology at the University of California at Davis, and he teaches a course on the History and Philosophy of Medicine at the Institute of Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Honolulu. Dr. Smith studied Hawaiian medicine with Hawaii’s leading traditional herbal healer, and he has had personal experience with Tibetan and Native American medicines, all giving him a broad perspective of both Western and traditional medicines. He is presently writing a textbook on the History and Philosophy of Medicine.
